April 24, 2014, Panama City, Panama -- Today the Transmission Company of Panama (ETESA) and Ventyx, Inc., an ABB company (Ventyx-ABB), have completed the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of the new SCADA/EMS of ETESA'sCentro Nacional de Despacho (National Load Dispatch Center - CND). December 27, 2013, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -- The Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC), having its principal place of business in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and Savu C. Savulescu, from Energy Consulting International, Inc., a New York based electric power engineering firm specializing in computer engineering and utility information systems, entered a contract that designates Savu as a Consultant to EVNHCMC with full responsibility for providing Consulting Services in Support of the Bidding Process and Contract Implementation of EVNHCMC SCADA/DMS. have approved and entered an agreement to publish a second edition of the book
Real-Time Stability in Power Systems - Techniques for Early Detection of the Risk of Blackout. Edited by Savu and featuring contributions from leading researchers and practitioners,
it will update the first edition of this seminal volume, also edited by Savu and
published by Springer in 2005, thus providing an authoritative and detailed documentation of the current theoretical knowledge
in the field and the most successful practical implementations of real-time stability tools. The book is expected to be released in July 2014. Stay tuned!
May 3, 2013, Sugar Land, TX -- Today the Transmission Company of Panama (ETESA) and Ventyx, Inc., an ABB company (Ventyx-ABB) started the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of the new SCADA/EMS as part of the National Dispatch Center SCADA/EMS Upgrade project. So far, the project has been moving on schedule, and no significant problems are foreseen during the upcoming FAT, either. Some of the new applications might require further fine-tuning, but, overall, both ETESA and Ventyx-ABB expect that the project will quickly proceed to its final stages, e.g., field implementation, which is scheduled for late 2013 or early 2014, and, finally, the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) in April or May 2014. February 5, 2013, San Jose, Costa Rica -- The National Control Center (CENCE) upgrade project at ICE, San Jose, Costa Rica, continues at full speed. On February 5, 2013, the SCADA/EMS consultant in the project, ECI's Savu C. Savulescu, met with Messrs. Salvador López, Director of CENCE, Jorge Sancho Chavez, Director of Operations Planning, and Javier Sánchez Gómez, Control Center Upgrade Project Manager, to appraise the current project status and assess several technical issues as well. April 10, 2012, Panama City, Panama -- Today the Transmission Company of Panama (ETESA) and Ventyx, Inc., an ABB company (Ventyx-ABB), completed the Statement of Work (SoW) of the National Dispatch Center SCADA/EMS Upgrade project. Consistently with a long standing tradition in the SCADA/EMS industry, where the SoW is the first major milestone immediately after contract award, the agreement reached today by ETESA and Ventyx-ABB specifies, in detail, what and when will be delivered, and how will the project tasks be conducted and monitored. Organized and chaired by Edward J. Dobrowolski, Standards Coordinator, NERC, the 2011 Control Center Issues session was well attended, encompassed paper presentations by SCADA/EMS industry experts, and was followed by a Control Center Roundtable that allowed those in attendance to address a broad range of contemporary issues pertinent to Control Centers in the context of today's utility landscape (read more...).

A tribute to the Memory of Glenn W. Stagg and Jorge Dopazo within the frame of the Power System Computation and Expo 2011 (PSCE2011). Chaired and organized by Professor Arun G. Phadke (Virginia Tech University, Blackburn, VA) with assistance from Dr. Savu C. Savulescu (Energy Consulting International, Inc., New York, NY) and Dr. Sudhir Virmani (EPIC Engineering, Inc., Cupertino, CA), this memorable event offered a unique opportunity to be in the same room and at the same time with many technical experts whose work and accomplishments during the last couple of decades have shaped the current network analysis and SCADA/EMS landscape in the utility industry. Slide shows summarizing panel papers that are now part of the PSCE2011 Proceedings, informal presentations, friendly chats and photo opportunities kept us busy for the entire afternoon and will be remembered with great emotion for years to come (read more...)
