Control Center Issues Panel Session at PESGM2011
July 27, 2011, Detroit, MI -- The Control Centers Working Group of the IEEE Power Engineering Society (PES) Power System Operations Committee reiterated its vitality and continuing presence on the PES stage by sponsoring the Control Center Issues Panel Session on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the PESGM2011 in Detroit, MI. Enthusiastically chaired and organized throughout the years by Edward J. Dobrowolski, Standards Coordinator, NERC, the Control Center Issues meetings aimed at providing a forum for topical discussions of anything and everything having to do with utility control centers and their operation.
The 2011 session was no exception. It was well attended, thus honoring the tradition of being the centerpiece for control center discussions at every general meeting of IEEE PES, and encompassed the presentation of the following papers:
Backup Control Center Design and Implementation Criteria -- paper PESGM-2011GM0351 presented by Savu C. Savulescu, Energy Consulting International, Inc.
Contingency Visualization for Real-Time Decision Support -- paper PESGM-2011GM01523 presented by Zhenyu (Henry) Huang, Yousu Chen and Frank Greitzer, Battelle Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Richland, WA, and Robert Eubank, Western Electricity Coordinating Council, Salt Lake City, UT
Wide-Area Reliability Automated Reports Using Phasor and SCADA Measurements and a Model-Less Approach -- paper PESGM-2011GM01365 presented by Carlos Martinez, Advanced Systems Researchers, Inc.
A Control Center Roundtable was held after the presentations and allowed the session attendees to address a broad range of contemporary issues pertinent to Control Centers in the context of today's utility landscape. Plans for the PES GM2012 Control Center Issues session were also discussed, thus paving the way for another successful meeting in 2012.
The papers are available in electronic format in the IEEE PES GM2011 Transactions. If you wish to obtain copies of the slides presented by the panelists, please kindly email your request to Edward J. Dobrowolski, Chair, Control Centers Issues PES Working Group, at ed.dobrowolski@nerc.net.
